Being a caregiver is a big responsibility and it’s easy to become burnt out and feel emotionally depleted. You’re choosing to spend your time caring for your loved one but it’s important to occasionally take breaks to recharge. Respite care allows you to do just that.
What is Respite Care?
Respite care allows you to take a little time off from your caregiving duties while ensuring that your senior’s needs are still being met. Our respite caregivers will temporarily take over caring for your loved one’s needs, with a focus on maintaining a normal daily routine, along with their physical and mental well-being. The highly-trained respite caregivers at Colonial Home Care Services are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and we will be happy to customize an hourly, daily, or weekly in-home plan that best fits your busy schedule.
Why Do I Need Respite Care?
Caring for a senior parent or family member is stressful — according to the AARP, nearly half of all caregivers experience some stress.
Respite care can provide the following benefits:
- Prevent caregiver burnout: The stressful nature of being a caregiver can often cause resentments to build up which can affect your relationship with your loved one. Respite care gives you the time off you need so you can return refreshed and refocused.
- Provide downtime: Everyone needs a little time away to relax and unwind. Respite care will give you a chance to get away, rest, and do the things you want to do.
- Access to a trusted resource for support: What would you do if a sudden emergency came up? Respite care can provide a safety net so that you always have a trusted resource to contact for support if you need it.
How Respite Care Works
At Colonial Home Care, we let you tell us when you need assistance and we will customize a package to meet your needs.
If you just need a couple of hours to yourself during the day, one of our short-shift caregivers can help out for three hours or less. We also provide longer periods of assistance during both the daytime and evening hours.
The best way to get started is to contact us today for a free, no-obligation in-home care assessment.
